The Baden Powell / Scotia project area is located within the highly prospective Bardoc Tectonic Zone (“BTZ”), a major greenstone belt between Kalgoorlie and Menzies, approximately 60km north-west of Kalgoorlie. In September 2022, Horizon Minerals (ASX: HZN) announced a maiden JORC (2012) Inferred Mineral Resource or 23,000 ounces at the Baden Powell / Scotia project (595kt @ 1.2g/t Au at a 0.5g/t Au lower cut-off).
Since being acquired by Horizon Minerals in 2016 a significant review of the project area was completed, resulting in an enhanced understanding of the components influencing gold mineralisation. 4,181 metres of drilling comprising 47 Reverse Circulation (RC) and Aircore (AC) drill holes were completed by Horizon since 2017, culminating in the announcement of the maiden Inferred Mineral Resource in 2022.
RC drilling completed at the Baden Powell / Scotia project focussed on extensions at depth to the south of the historic shallow workings, and returned the highest grades, with the best result being:
– 17m @ 3.00 g/t Au from 104m (including 7m @ 5.95 g/t Au from 111m)
At the Olympia prospect, located 2.5 km northeast of the Baden Powell Pit, shallow air-core drilling focussed on testing part of the 3,800 metres by 500 metres gold-in-soil auger anomaly (maximum assay 169 ppb Au) with anomalous levels of moderately oxidised quartz–sulphide related gold and supergene mineralisation intercepted at 50 to 70 metres vertical depth at grade up to 1.4 g/t Au.
